Galactic microlensing with rotating binaries

چکیده

The influence of rotating binary systems on the light curves of galactic microlensing events is studied. Three different rotating binary systems are discussed: a rotating binary lens, a rotating binary source, and the earth’s motion around the sun (parallax effect). The most dramatic effects arise from the motion of a binary lens because of the changes of the caustic structure with time. I discuss when the treatment of amicrolensing event with a static binary model is appropriate. It is shown that additional constraints on the unknown physical quantities of the lens system arise from a fit with a rotating binary lens as well as from the earth-around-sun motion. For the DUO#2 event, a fit with a rotating binary lens is presented.

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

Improved Detection Rates for Close Binaries Via Astrometric Observations of Gravitational Microlensing Events

In addition to constructing a Galactic matter mass function free from the bias induced by the hydrogen-burning limit, gravitational microlensing allows one to construct a mass function which is less affected by the problem of unresolved binaries (Gaudi & Gould). However, even with the method of microlensing, the photometric detection of binaries is limited to binary systems with relatively larg...

Microlensing in phase space II: Correlations analysis

Applications of the phase space approach to the calculation of the microlensing autocorrelation function are presented. The continuous propagation equation for a random star field with a Gaussian velocity distribution is solved in the leading non-trivial approximation using the perturbation technique. It is shown that microlensing modulations can be important in the interpretation of optical an...

The Contribution of Microlensing Surveys to the Distance Scale

In the early nineties several teams started large scale systematic surveys of the Magellanic Clouds and the Galactic Bulge to search for microlensing effects. As a by product, these groups have created enormous time-series databases of photometric measurements of stars with a temporal sampling duration and accuracy which are unprecedented. They provide the opportunity to test the accuracy of pr...

Rates for Color Shifted Microlensing Events

If the objects responsible for gravitational microlensing of Galactic-bulge stars are faint dwarfs, then blended light from the lens will distort the shape of the microlensing light curve and shift the color of the observed star during the microlensing event. In most cases, the resolution in current microlensing surveys is not accurate enough to observe this color-shift effect. However, such si...
